These Canadians are serious about their weenie dog races.

The list of dogs running is long and distinguished.

This fella is competing for a purse of $2,500. Exactly how many dog bones can you buy with that cash?

Daddy conferring with his bookie, Rudy about what horses to bet on.

Seriously, he studies the stats with a fine tooth comb. He won most of the races, however, that is no surprise to any of us. But he then spent it all on beer.

And they're off!

Bada boom! First race and we're winners! We bet $6 to win $3.40. Fuzzy math and all but it doesn't sound like we're ahead yet!

Is there anything wrong with children gambling? We won! Sophie pocketed her $15 bucks so she can buy candy and gum. And most likely a set of dentures in the future.

Winner winner chicken dinner! I'm saving my $20 for my college fund.

And then there's Rudy, our new adopted grandpa. He sat next to us and turned out to be amazing. We consulted with him before every race and most of the time, we won due to his due diligence. He even gave me one of his winning tickets and when I went to cash it out, it was a whopping $18.50!

Who needs parents when you find a whole new clan? The woman in the blue tank lives a block from where we're staying and hooked us up with a babysitter. Before the horse races were even half over, mama had booked the girl with 4 babysitting assignments this week. The first one starting tonight. And at $5 an hour. If she weren't 14, they'd probably abandon us for the entire week! The woman is also a hair dresser so mama is going to see her this week for a dye job as a way to escape from the house. On the way home, we stopped by the gas station to blow some of our winnings on Tim Bit donuts and gum. By far, this was the best day ever.

This is Lenny who took second place in the final weenie race. His dad attributes his good racing abilities on genetics, a healthy diet and regular exercise.
