Look at what daddy has done for us - he has expertly transformed (with the initial help of cousin Eric & Jehn) part of the yard into a fabulous garden. He worked so hard...hauling big rocks, digging up tons of plants, shoveling compost to enrich the soil and then fencing it off so Ally doesn't roll around in it and destroy the fruits of his labor. Yesterday we transplanted the corn and cantalope into the ground - we started it off from seed in the kitchen so we're hoping that it actually grows now that it's out in the garden. Our neighbor Mel gave us a cherry tomato plant from her garden which already has a few flowers on it. We also have a zucchini plant so that daddy always has some zucchini bread to nibble on. And then there are red and yellow bell peppers, cucumbers, green onions and mammoth sunflowers. Oh ya, there's also an herb garden with basil so mommy can always whip up fresh pesto sauce, other italian herbs for red pasta sauce, rosemary since she's been wanting to make bread with it and lemon verbena cause she loves to make tea with it. If all goes well, we should have a summer harvest in about 2 months.
Next on our to do list is chickens. Mommy wants fresh eggs to cook with. As if she doesn't have enough bodies to care for around here already. Yesterday she was on Craigs List checking out coops and made sure the city ordinance allows for such pets. We're going to get 2 so there's not an issue of loneliness. And hopefully they can roam around the yard without falling prey to Ally.
I get to name them too which means one will probably be Sid after my favorite show Sid the Science Kid and the other one being Elmo, of course!!!!
