24 years ago, a man name Rupa came to India and could not bare the sight of all the street kids begging for food. He began to feed them daily in a Hare Krishna temple and in no time at all he was feeding 2,000 kids a day in the town of Vrindavan. From there he started a school so he could see to it that these kids get a formal education and hopefully rise above poverty. He now educates & feeds something like 1,500 kids.





We had milk and homemade butter cookies with these kindergartners. The bakery next store makes 2,000 cookies a day for the school. They add a chocolate powder to it which provides them with all the nutrients they need. The 8 year olds were much smaller than jake and Sophie. The fresh milk comes straight from the source....they have 500 cows. Most are rescued off of the streets, many of which have been severely injured by cars.




I am trying to get my hands on this little gem to sponsor her education.



We arrived at the school while they were chanting so naturally we joined in. It led to dancing around with these joyful little souls. Some of them even fought over us.



The girls in India are usually married off by the time they turn 13. However, this girls school, food for life, is empowering the female spirit and giving them a financial incentive to carry out their education instead of marrying. They create a bank account for each child and then look for a sponsor for each. Each month they put $5 into an account that will be turned over to the girl once she graduates high school. It grows to be something like $500 and this alone will motivate a family to allow her daughter to stay in school.



There are a lot of mouths to feed every single day. I was especially surprised to see them chopping basil and tomatoes on the floor of the kitchen.


Today's lunch was curry tofu. It was an impressive amount of food.












Aside from the school, they have ten acres of land nearby where they have acres dedicated to an organic vegetable garden. This is also where the cows reside and are treated like royalty!

The leader of our group here is the founder of Bhakti and Shakti yoga fest in Joshua tree in the fall and spring. I have asked him to let me sell homemade things like almond milk, kombucha, raw balls, baked goods, etc at the festival in may and then donate all the proceeds to this cause. Little do jake and Sophie know, but they will be my assistants in this worthwhile endeavor. You can't help but want to pour your heart and soul into this cause once you've been touched by these girls.
